Album cover

East Side Band was a studio project assembled by John Owen Williams in 1979. Signed by Mickie Most to Rak Records, their debut single 'Rendezvous' was Kid Jensen's Record of the Week on BBC Radio1. The second single Won't You Be Mine, released independently in 1981, was Terry Wogan's Record of the Week on BBC Radio 2.

After the band split, John went on to manage Blancmange and later became Head of A&R at Polydor, Chrysalis, Sanctuary and W14 Music.

He also worked as a BBC Radio 1 session producer and later produced the classic 'London O Hull 4' by the Housemartins and debut albums by the Proclaimers, the High and the Almighty. He produced the first five Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott albums, co-wrote the ×Propaganda album and has more recently been responsible for two releases by the John Williams Syndicate
